Perhaps it is being the chairman of the world’s largest furry convention that provides the bulk of the situations for his stories. Or, it might be his work as a scientist and contact with a variety of smart, intelligent people that keeps his creative juices flowing.

Most likely, it’s a combination of both these things and a prodigious amount of white wine that kept Uncle Kage’s Story Hour as one of the best attended events in its time slot at Eurofurence.

A venerable institution at Eurofurence, Anthrocon and other furry conventions, Uncle Kage has provided entertainment with a dash of alcohol and schadenfreude for many years now. This year’s stories included some new material, much to your correspondent’s delight. The tale of the good doctor’s mother and her brief infatuation with a wheelchair-wielding Adonis at Frankfurt Airport proved popular.

There was also his biblical contretemps in Florida just last month with an individual who was a few cans short of a six pack (that is to say, crazy) and decided to show his unique form of appreciation to the doctor.

With his engaging story-telling style, the ability to poke fun at himself and a well-stocked ice bucket, the audience was left grasping their sides more often than not from the doctor's tales. Unlike previous years, however, there was no “2 The Ranting Gryphon” in attendance to engage the doctor in witty banter, which was no doubt a disappointment to the many fans of the duo. However, a tip of the hat to the bald entertainer did come up: “I was thinking, what would ’2’ do? He’d punch this guy in the face with his dick.”
