For this year’s charity event, and in a nod to the theme, Pinky hosted the “Kung Fur Show”, a display of martial arts with a dash of fun-loving insanity.

Cueball, Tyggs and JustSomeDog each took to the floor to show off their skills, with a range of kicks, punches and blocks choreographed into a powerful display spanning many different martial arts. Also performing was Kiyo, with an impressive display of bow-staffing.

57 roundkicks in a row

The audience certainly got into the spirit of the event, with collective gasps at Tyggs’ “breakfalling”, a technique allowing one to recover quickly from a fall or when pushed off balance with minimal impact. JustSomeDog’s display of swordsmanship, including sitting, standing and simultaneous front and rear attacks also drew great applause, as did his multiple roundhouse kicks. These kicks are not normally performed multiple times, but for the audience, JustSomeDog performed a staggering 57 kicks in a row. Cueball took on the role as aggressor against Tyggs in a demonstration of self-defence against a determined attacker, as well as displaying great strength tempered with graceful movements in his kata routine.

Jim Martin also took part in the show, proving to be an entertaining volunteer for the exhibitionists. His attempts to protect a tiger plush toy from being punched through like a breakboard were ultimately successful, much to the relief of the audience. (bar)
