Pawpet Show Looks Into the Future

This year's pawpetshow took a few bold and risky steps. The characters whose adventures we have followed for so many years stepped down from the stage.

Fan favourites like Poke and Lori had to make room for a new generation of pawpets in this year's adventure which took the audience to the Pearl of Asia, Hong Kong. Anybody expecting a more traditional plot was surprised with a futuristic cyberpunk thriller, pitting hackers, corporations and the Communist Party of China against each other in a close struggle for political power and control over the cyberspace.

“Crazy is an important attribute to have,” Eisfuchs observed as your correspondent chatted with him, sat on the floor in the Pawpet Show backstage room earlier this week. Crazy and dedicated would seem equally fitting.

Once again, the Fursuit Gameshow proved to be a contest of agility, skill and - most of all – endurance, as the finals stretched on until close to midnight on Friday evening.

Hosted by Aetobatus, the show pitted eight pairs of fursuiters, the finalists of Thursday's preliminaries, against each other in a series of challenges to find the pair most worthy of serving as the Emperor’s new architects.

Why is it Raining on our Parade?

This year the fursuit parade was expanded into a short street tour around downtown Magdeburg. For the first time, the event did not take place during the weekend, as to avoid a date collision with today's Christopher Street Day Parade.

Eurofurence's Forbidden Cities

There are many areas where not everyfur can enter. The "Furbidden City" with its headless indulgences is only one example. A look behind closed doors.

Some 600 furs at Eurofurence are not fursuiters. As such, they can only speculate as to what goes on behind the wooden walls of the Furbidden City, eternally shrouded in a low, buzzing hum. It comes from a myriad of powerful fans. A yellow dog is cooling its chest and crotch at two of them. Even bigger ones are connected to long pipes with multiple outlets that dozens of suiters use to dry their handpaws and heads simultaneously. Indeed, many of them are headless - this is the only place they allow themselves to be seen like this.

Words with Friends

Perhaps it is being the chairman of the world’s largest furry convention that provides the bulk of the situations for his stories. Or, it might be his work as a scientist and contact with a variety of smart, intelligent people that keeps his creative juices flowing.

Fursuit Games

The Fursuit Gameshow QualifiersThe Fursuit gameshow started off again with the preliminaries taking place on Thursday afternoon. Competitions to find out which pairs of critters to move on to Friday evening's final saw the popular charity collection run return, with fursuiters trying their best to convince others around the hotel to give to charity.

Furball Run

The Champagne Bus

Some say that they drive 600 miles to dress up as animals and drink beer, and that they think there is no German word for “fluffy”. All we know is, it’s called the Furball Run.

First run in 2008 under the benevolent dictatorship of Jasper and AK, who thought that organizing a road trip across Europe for a group of furries wouldn’t shorten their lives, the Furball Run is a convoy of primarily British EF attendees from the UK to Germany. Covering over 600 miles across four countries in two days, the Furball Run is the largest organized convoy to Eurofurence, with 15 vehicles and around 40 people taking part this year.

A Tale of Two Parades

17_wed_01.jpg

It's a fabulous weekend for Magdeburg. The reason why the fursuit parade was moved to Friday is another parade: Christopher Street Day!

Some 417 fursuiters are assembled at Eurofurence. When they march through the streets of Magdeburg in a colourful defilee, cars stop, children squeal and parents take photographs. This year, for the first time, the fursuit parade will take place on Friday, instead of Saturday.

The reason for this change is as simple as it is surprising. Another line of paraders will waltz through Magdeburg on Saturday, just in front of the Maritim: the Christopher Street Day parade!
